Snow White and the Huntsman on Blu-ray

I love fairy tales.

I have a thing for reading the original story. I do love me some Disney fairy tales but it’s more interesting to me to read the original.

Snow White and the Huntsman is a re-telling of the Snow White fairy tale and is told very well with intense visual effects.

I actually really liked this movie. I was a little skeptical since I’m not a huge fan of Kristen Stewart and her acting, especially in the Twilight movies. I apologize to anyone who has a different opinion. I didn’t have very high or really any expectations for the movie. I hadn’t heard very many reviews or heard much talk about it. After having said that, I REALLY enjoyed the movie. It was a whole lot better than I thought it would be.

There was enough action, surprise, intrigue and comedy to satisfy everyone’s movie preferences. I loved the dwarves, I think they were one of my favorite parts in the movie.

The Blu-ray has the extended edition and since I hadn’t seen the movie in the theater, I decided to watch the extended version and then the theatrical version to figure out what was shown and not shown. I should have reversed that and watched the theater version first so then when I watched the extended edition, I’d notice what was added. It was a little more difficult for me to remember what WASN’T shown in the extended version.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE special features which is one of the only reasons I would even consider buying the DVD or Blu-ray of a movie I liked and would watch over again at home.

I absolutely love learning about what went on behind the scenes and learning what was done and how it was done to make the movie so amazing. I really enjoyed the actors, producers, writers and the director’s point of view of what happened or what was going on to make certain aspects of the film. It makes me want to go into technical work and be able to be a part of creating something so amazing.

There is also this really cool feature where you download the app “Pocket Blu” on your smartphone or computer and you can access special features about a particular scene during the movie. I used my iPad to download the app to use during the movie on my PS3 to access the videos, the artwork and storyboards. It was super cool to see the storyboards and the artwork during the movie. I suggest you use this feature AFTER you’ve already seen the movie or else you’ll miss parts of the movie. It’s more fun to access the special features after you’ve already seen the movie. My favorite part of the PocketBlu app is the art work which is absolutely gorgeous and gives a little back story to movie and its characters.

Even if you haven’t seen the movie, I say get it on Blu-ray because you’ll enjoy the movie AND I KNOW you’ll love watching the special features and finding more about the movie.

Snow White and the Hunstaman is available for purchase September 11th.

*I wasn’t compensated for this post although I did receive a complimentary Blu-ray to review. Any and all opinions are my own*
