Are you ready to feel incredibly old? (You may want to sit down for this…)
The Wiggles just celebrated their 25th Birthday.
No, they’re not 25 years old … They’ve been performing for 25 years!
And I can honestly say that I am sad to see the original Wiggles take their final bow.
(Did you hear that Greg is back?!)
My kids love The Wiggles, and have loved them for the last 8 years.
We were introduced to The Wiggles when my oldest daughter was 6 months old, and my mom gave me “Wiggle Time”. You all know that cancer has been a huge part of my family’s existence, so I apologize for referencing it again. (I wondered why I was drawn to do this review… I mean, it’s The Wiggles, and I’m 31…Then I remembered.) We were in a whirl of chaos trying to figure out what kind of cancer Lillie had been born with, what that meant for her, and how she would react to the chemotherapy she was getting. I remember staying up late with my mom and grandmother way past bed-time (9:30pm?- yes, when you have small children, that is late.), and watching Lillie kicking her legs and dancing her little heart out to “Fruit Salad”, and “Quack, quack, quack”.
As a mother with a sick child, you try to never take for granted the small things that make them smile. I can honestly say that The Wiggles were a source of happiness for her. Okay, so you get why I’m emotionally attached to them, but I know that’s not the case for most.
So, here’s the deal – They’re energetic, their songs are catchy, they have cute accents, and keep our kids entertained (and moving, I might add) so we can do things we otherwise would never be able to do without interruption, like go to the bathroom, and make dinner for an army of every-hungry little people.
Yes, we do love The Wiggles!
I remember my college buddy asking what my favorite CD was at the moment, and I hesitated and then told him it was a Wiggles CD… You don’t really get the chance to listen to much else when you’re raising a throng of kids, and that was okay with me.
Then he had kids.
I’m sure he’ll be calling me to borrow my copy of The Wiggles Big Birthday very soon.
It’s a super fun collection of over two decades of Wiggles music, dancing, pretending, and photos of their biggest moments. It’s the perfect way to say adieu to a wonderful career, and still keep the moments alive (and re-playable). Complete with bloopers, silly jokes, birthday wishes, and a documentary covering their first 20 years, the DVD is something we will keep in our family collection for a very long time.
If you don’t get the chance to see The Wiggles on their current tour, The Wiggles’ Big Birthday is the next best thing!
