Mr. Biggs in the City: Book Review and Giveaway

“Mr. Biggs is a Sasquatch. Some call him Bigfoot.”

Bigfoot? In the city? What child wouldn’t love to read about an adorable Bigfoot named Mr. Biggs. This story sends its youthful reader on a fun adventure from a cozy cave to a happening city.

I received a copy of Kevin Bloomfield’s latest children’s book, Mr. Biggs in the City. This cute but large Sasquatch wanders from his forest home to explore different activities in the city. My daughter’s favorite page is shown below as Mr. Biggs attempts ballet. My daughter loved his ballet leap, complete with stinky green toe-nailed toes sticking out of his ballet shoes.

Kevin Bloomfield, the author of Mr. Biggs in the City, used one of the best children’s book “sounding boards” on the market, his daughters. I emailed Kevin and asked him what was his favorite part of working with his kids. His response: “My rule was, if my kids didn’t laugh at the page then I throw it out and start over. I think as adults we think we know what kids like, but the reality is we just aren’t cool enough.” So true!

One other interesting feature of this book is that you can purchase it in bilingual format with Spanish as well as English. I think it’s a great idea to include both. My kids attended preschool where most of their books had both Spanish and English captions and my now 1st grader is still using some of the Spanish words she learned three years ago.

BUY:You can purchase Mr. Biggs in the City on Amazon or at Barnes and Noble. Mr. Bloomfield’s second book, Mr. Biggs at the Circus is in production and should launch later this year.
